World Oceans Day Education Workshop in Spain
Every day is World Oceans Day at Healthy Seas but on June 8th we have even more reason to celebrate and encourage the public and our partners to take action to protect our blue planet.
Our team this year joined Ghost Diving Spain, organising educational workshops at El Far de Calella school for 100 children, ages 6-8. We presented the work of Healthy Seas and Ghost Diving, carried out art experiments with recyclable materials and also gave them the opportunity to meet the divers and learn about their equipment.
A few days prior, on June 4th, we participated in a public event aiming at environmental awareness, together with like minded local associations at the Paseo Neptu, in Canet de Mar. Healthy Seas was there with our virtual reality experience and activities for the public.
We already know from scientific studies that the sea surrounding Barcelona is one of the three areas in Spain most polluted with plastics from fishing activity and that is why we are continuing our work in the area with regular cleanups and education programmes, doing our bit to restore the ecosystem and allow biodiversity to thrive.
