Sharing Knowledge, Sparking Change: Protecting Our Sea

Raising Awareness and Education

Education

Education is the main focus of the Healthy Seas Foundation. We strive to make a positive and long-lasting impact on the marine environment and the development of society through education and awareness raising, involving stakeholders from various sectors. Since
2013, our dedicated education team has been visiting schools in many countries in Europe, the US and Asia, organizing public events and holding virtual sessions for adults and employees to discuss marine pollution, climate change and the circular economy.

“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.”

Rachel Carson

What We Do

Educational Programmes (physical or online)

The Healthy Seas educational programme is designed for children aged 6-18 years old. It can be implemented indoors or outdoors, at school or at external venues i.e. beach pavilion, cultural center, museum etc. The programme includes presentations explaining the topics of marine litter, ghost fishing, ghost nets, circular economy and the link to climate change. Fun games and arts & crafts activities which make learning enjoyable and memorable.

We are proud to be awarded the LOtC Quality Badge

We provide high-quality and safe learning experiences for children. Contact us to find out more about planning your school visit.

Outdoor Education with the European Outdoor Education Hub

We can also provide outdoor learning experiences connected to ocean conservation in collaboration with our partner, the European Outdoor Education Hub. Through our joint efforts, we’ve conducted impactful activities in Greece that address marine litter and the circular economy.

Beach Clean-ups

Healthy Seas organises beach and riverbank clean-ups to raise awareness of marine litter. Students, teachers, guardians, and guests can spend a day on the beach, learn about the impact of marine litter on sea life, aquatic ecosystems and human health and do their part for healthy seas.

University workshops

We collaborate with university teachers and faculties to create and support workshops focused on marine conservation.
For instance, we’ve partnered with Newcastle University in the UK to inspire future marine biologists. Additionally, we have conducted workshops at various universities in Greece, addressing sustainable aquaculture, waste management and circular economy solutions.

Student Projects & Artworks

Healthy Seas supports artists and students of all ages (elementary to University) with their projects, artworks, etc., and institutions eager to help spread the word about the deadly impact of ghost nets.

School Fairs

Healthy Seas participates in school fairs with information booths where students, teachers, guardians, and guests can meet with staff and volunteers to learn more about our work and activities. Sustainable products made of ECONYL® regenerated nylon, such as socks, swimwear and carpets but also Bracenets, are on display providing visitors with real-life examples of a circular economy model.
