Meet MAKO: Our Versatile Vessel for Marine Protection

Protecting Marine Life and Advancing Research in the Ionic Sea

MAKO is more than just a boat—it's our commitment to safeguarding marine life and supporting scientific research in the Ionian Sea. Named after the swift and powerful mako shark , our diving boat MAKO is equipped and ready to serve a variety
of critical missions, from clean-up dives to animal rescue and research projects. With its new home in Greece, MAKO is now more active than ever, offering its services to marine life, communities, and researchers dedicated to understanding and preserving our oceans.

A Multi-Purpose Vessel for Marine Conservation

First Respondent for Marine Life Rescue

MAKO is on standby as a first responder vessel for marine life rescue operations. Whether it's freeing animals trapped by marine litter or providing immediate support during emergencies, MAKO is here to help. We invite organizations and volunteers to join us in this vital work.

Supporting Scientific Research

Are you a researcher or scientist with a project focused on marine pollution, the state of our seas, or related topics? MAKO is at your service. Equipped for diving and tailored for small research projects, our boat offers the ideal platform for conducting studies in the Ionian Sea. We actively promote and support research initiatives that align with our mission to protect marine ecosystems.

Dedicated to Clean-Up Missions

MAKO has been instrumental in our clean-up efforts, including supporting the 2024 abandoned fish farms clean-up in Greece. As our primary diving boat, MAKO continues to play a crucial role in removing ghost nets and other marine litter from the ocean, helping to restore and protect marine habitats.

Engaging the Public Through Education and Events

MAKO is also a platform for educational activities and events focused on marine litter and conservation. We host workshops, school visits, and public events on board, allowing participants to learn about the importance of ocean conservation firsthand. These activities are an integral part of our educational efforts, making marine conservation accessible and engaging for all.

Get Involved—Submit Your Idea or Research Projects

    MAKO's Journey and Capabilities

Thanks to a generous donation from our partner DWS a few years ago, we were able to purchase MAKO, our versatile diving boat. Recently, we relocated MAKO from the Netherlands to Greece, where the favorable weather allows for more active deployment throughout the year. MAKO is fully equipped for diving missions, capable of supporting towing operations, and ready to host educational events, making it an invaluable asset in our marine conservation efforts. As we expand its use, MAKO will continue to serve as a versatile platform for clean-up dives, research, marine life rescue operations, and public education.
