Empowering Future Changemakers: Another Milestone Year for Circular Economy Education in Slovenia
We are thrilled to celebrate another year of impactful collaboration with AquafilSLO and the Eco-Schools program in Slovenia, marking incredible progress in educating the next generation about the circular economy.
During the 2023/2024 school year, 61 schools participated in the “Circularity is Our Opportunity” module, reaching over 2,000 students across Slovenia. This represents a 50% increase in participating schools and a remarkable 250% growth in student engagement compared to the previous year.
To further empower educators, the program was enhanced with a new, comprehensive resource developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Science & Technology, Eco-Schools, and our partner AquafilSLO. Published by the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Ljubljana, the “Circular Economy and Textiles” manual offers 11 multidisciplinary lesson plans designed to help teachers from preschools to high schools bring sustainability into the classroom.
This manual introduces students, from ages 4 to 18, to complex yet crucial concepts like waste reduction, recycling, sustainable design, and circular thinking, all through the lens of textiles. Using the ECONYL® Regeneration System (developed by Aquafil) as an example, the resource encourages students to apply circular economy principles to real-world scenarios, sparking their creativity and problem-solving skills.
This milestone provides educators with the tools to foster active, informed citizens and future agents of sustainability. We’re excited to see how students continue their journey from waste to wear, and we eagerly anticipate the results at the end of the 2024/2025 school year.
