On 22-23 July, the Ghost Fishing Greece divers removed big amount of ghost nets around 40m length and about 400kg from a shipwreck in the Korinthian Gulf in Greece.

On Saturday the weather and the visibility unfortunately wasn’t an ally for our divers, so on their first dive they couldn’t found the wreck and had to abort. The enthusiastic team didn’t give up easily, so on the second dive they managed to put the lift bags on the net that was on the bow of the wreck.

On Sunday everything was on our side, so the divers managed to pull out a big amount of net around 40m length and about 400kg. All of efforts were strongly supported by Nautical Club of Alepochori which was very helpful with every aspect of our action, including the storage of the recovered ghost nets.

Because of the mass of ghost nets they have to return once again to clear up everything and remove this death trap for marine animals. Soon to be continued…
