Thanks to the efforts of our partner MEDASSET-Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles in Greece, we are happy to announce a new partnership with Andromeda Group, a leading aquaculture company in the Mediterranean!
Last week, 25 tonnes of old fishing nets were collected from the Andromeda Group’s installation at Vonitsa, Greece and shipped by our partner NOFIR for cleaning and sorting. Later on the nets will arrive to Slovenia where they will be regenerated into ECONYL® yarn, in order to create beautiful new products, such as clothing or carpets.
Healthy Seas applies a two-way approach in order to achieve its mission. Namely, recovering ghost fishing nets from our seas (with the help of divers and salvage companies) and preventing that waste fishing nets will end up in marine ecosystems or in landfills (with the help of fishermen communities and fish farms).
We are very happy that now another step has been made towards a clean and healthy Mediterranean Sea!
