To prevent that used fishnets end up in landfill or incineration, we partner up with more and more fishermen’s communities. They are key players in collecting fishnets for regeneration.

This week, another 10 tons of used fishnets collected by Greek fishermen were put on transport to the Nofir plant, where they will be prepared for regeneration. The three cooperating fishermen’s associations are from Mikrolimano, Alimos and Perama.

Next to this – as part of our cooperation with DeFishGear project – the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) also contributed about 400 kg of fishing nets collected at Corfu island. They have set up a system for the collection of derelict nylon fishing nets from the fishermen at the island.

As always, coordination and transportation activities were in the safe hands of our great partners MEDASSET and Nofir.
